                                                                                        Bipolar Disorder
Introduction
Bipolar disorder is a severe mood swing disorder. The sufferer has moods that go from high highs to low lows and can often be accompanied by different degrees of psychosis. They will go from feeling morbid, tired and depressed to feeling highly energetic, sleepless and so confident that it enters into a euphoric state. This disorder is very serious and very disabling. From mania to depression. Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression or manic depressive illness. The name of this disorder was changed to biplor because it sounded like much less threatening of a name. Make no mistake, when anyone with bipolar disorder stops taking thier medicine, the consequences can be deadly. The severe mood swings associated with Bipolar disorder, mood swings that can last weeks or months, are very disruptive to the sufferer and the family members. Often times leading to involuntary hospitalization in a psychiatric ward.
There is such a wide spectrum of symptoms with bipolar disorder that proper diagnosis is often overlooked. There is a 10-15% rate of suicide with this disorder. When sufferers are properly treated with the right medication, this disorder is very controllable. But bare in mind that stress, as with any psychological disorder usually is one of the main triggers of bipolar disorder along with drug/alcohol abuse and addiction. Cooperation and acceptance is the key to proper treatment. A great deal of the time those who are bipolar may enjoy the high and euphoria associated with the manic state and they will refuse to take thier medication.*

Please understand that there are many degrees of severity and length of symptoms for each type of Bipolar disorder (manic depression). The types being mania and depression. Diagnosing each particular type is very important in determining medication for this disorder.
