You will learn how to simply alter your daily schedule so you can avoid open and free time where you have nothing to do. Free time leaves you highly vulnerable to your addiction. When you are sleeping you are not caught up in your addiction. This is true because your mind is relaxed and preoccupied with sleep. You can do things to induce yourself to sleep a little longer or even go to sleep a little bit earlier at night. Your schedule and how you plan it is a main key to your continued recovery. You will learn how to keep preoccupied with your life and have no time for your addiction.
Any emotional strains you may feel need to be recognized and dealt with honestly. Be honest with yourself about any strains or anxiety you may feel so that you can find a therapist you feel comfortable with to discuss these unsettling feelings. You should also find yourself a support group to share your problems with so that they can give you good advice and feedback. AA is a wonderful place for you to start.
Please know that everyday you are in recovery the process of staying clean and sober will get easier and easier. As your mind adapts and refocuses it's thinking, your recovery will become a more accepted and common place thing . Yes, recovery does get easier with each day, I promise.
Know too that as you are in recovery, due to your newer and clearer thinking, you will notice that good things will just happen. There will be more good days than bad days.
