Hollywood and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
I have included links on the left of this page that will direct you to several stories about Hollywood celebrities who have disclosed having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. And I am also including this list of others celebrities who have had this disorder. Knowing there are others who have OCD and continue on with successful careers should be a motivation for you to carry on with a near normal life also too, if you are so diagnosed with OCD. You will find that OCD is not as commonly found as other psychological disorders. That because OCD is a much rarer disorder. Here are a list of some famous people who have either disclosed having OCD or have been described with the symptoms:

Howard Hughes,Roseanne Barr,Howie Mandel,Martin Scorsese,Howard Stern,Marc Summers,Michelangelo,Stanley Kubrick,Harrison Ford,Jane Horrocks,PenÃlope Cruz,Billy Bob Thornton,Warren Zevon,John List,Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson,Paul Gascoigne,Nikola Tesla,John Melendez,Kathie Lee Gifford,Ludwig van Beethoven,Cameron Diaz,Albert Einstein,Ian Puleston-Davies,David Beckham,Charlie Sheen,Joey Ramone,and Leonardo DiCaprio

{Diaz has publicly admitted she is deeply germophobic and habitually rubs doorknobs so hard before opening doors to clean them that the original paint fades afterwards. Along with her floors, she says, she washes her hands 'many times' each day and uses her elbows to push open doors.}

MRI STUDIES ON OCD
Modern preliminary studies of the brain using magnetic resonance imaging have shown that people with obsessive compulsive disorder had significantly less white matter than did normal subjects, suggesting a widely distributed brain abnormality in OCD. Understanding the significance of this finding will be further explored by functional neuroimaging and neuropsychological studies (Jenike et al, 1996).

OCD AND ADDICTION

Alcohol and drugs mixed with any psychological disorder is not safe and will aggravate symptoms. OCD is an anxiety disorder and any substances that cause anxiety can only trigger and make the disorder worse. Even alcohol will help increase the anxiety and severity of OCD symptoms. Most people think that alcohol is a sedative. When the effects of alcohol begin to ware off, the drinker really suffers from irritability and anxiousness. And this will only make OCD symptoms worse.

Ocd questions and answers

Question:
Do i have ocd?
everything  has to be equal or perfect.

i was in a  rush to leave because  my dad was waiting for me, i had just cleaned my room, im  running  out of my bedroom door and looked back and found one thing wrong  i had  to fix it, im walking out my bedroom door turn back another  thing, so i run to  fix it, so this happens for about 5 more times  until i finally  leave.

i got my retainer today and  its bothering me that when i bite,  my left side is touching the  metal before the right side is. its driving me  nuts! the wires  are uneven!!! omg!.

it annoys me when the tounge of my  shoe  is to the side. it needs to be in the middle.

when i type  on  microsoft word, when i make a graph, my table has to fit onto  one page and be  perfectly centered and not devided.
i  think i have ocd..... im not  sure.
its funny because  im far from a germaphobic
or clean freak  *no offence to anyone

Answer: need to know more. does this  having to fix things in your room "thing" happen  all the time.  do you find that you have to move objects or things a certain way  or something bad will happen to someone? do you repeat behavoirs  to prevent bad  things from happening? 33% of people with OCD have  facial or body movement tics  or make repetitive sounds. I am heavily  studied in OCD and I also have OCD< I  have had it since I was  7 and i'm 44 now. OCD is a *****, but you can gain  control of  it. are your thoughts always intensified? do you find yourself taking  on too many projects at once? after you talk do you ever repeat  the last word or  words to your self in your mind sort of like  an echo? do you favor touching  things with a certain hand or finger  so that good things will happen? do you  ever have regular disturbing  or violent thoughts? do you feel pressure in your  mind often?  OCD is an anxiety disorder so do you feel a lot of anxiety  constantly?.do  just seem to
do certain things or say certain things regularly  and  or in a repetitive fashion? if you have this disorder then you are  not  alone. Leonardo Dicaprio has it, billy bob thornton has it  and cameron diaz does  also. when i took ssri drugs such as luvox,  my OCD symptoms subsided by 70 %.  but unfortunately my sex drive  also subsided about 95% from the luvox. you don't  really want  your sex drive anyway do you? oh well, who said life was a bowl  of  cherries? i'm being funny....don't be ashamed if you have OCD,  but you must  learn to control a lot of it. everyones symptoms  are in someways similar and in  some ways different. as for you  not being a germiphobic, i was one to a point  when i was a kid,  but i am not really one either. some people with OCD are  terrified  of germs. do you have to double and quadriple check light switches  being off or stoves being turned off after you have left the room? answer by john carcerano reprinted from Yahoo Answers

Question: The second part of my question relating to the severe  case of  OCD?
Hi , previously i have asked  for help regarding a severe case  of OCD. Thank you for your suggestions.  However , some of you have pointed out  whether i may have had  a traumatic experience which links to the case of  OCD/anxiety  disorder/paranoia.
I have had experiences in high school where  i  was bullied for 5 years ( not consistently and sometimes by  over 1 group/ more  than 1 individual at a time). This undoubtedly  had a negative impact of my life  and there are instances where  i just don't feel safe. I feel as if somebody is  going to attack  me, and there is this tension that i cannot get rid of , in  particular  in the presence of a male (i'm not a radical feminist!) , and when  i  walk home at night.
I can certainly link the experiences  to the illness  because before that , i led a carefree and unsuspecting  life , i was never  paranoid , although i was aware of the possibility  of a sexual attack when i was  walking alone , i never really took  it seriously until high school. any  suggestions?

Answer: can't see how any of this has  triggered your ocd, with more info i could  probably help you understand  what triggered your ocd but i will just give you  advice how to  control here.i have had ocd since i was 7 and I'm 44 now. i have  gained very good control over my ocd symptoms. if you would care  to email me and  describe your severe symptoms i will try my best  to help you get a handle on  your ocd. every case is different  but i took 100 Mg's of luvox and after a  couple of months my symptoms  decreased 70%. i also learned how to not give into  my obbsessions,  ignore them. it's hard but a few months of working hard not to  do  compulsions the strength of my ocd has drastically subsided. you  also have to  go out of your way to avoid stress. stress is a big  trigger. and ocd is an  anxiety disorder so you are very prone  to addiction to drugs and alcohol. drugs  and alcohol will full  your symptoms to become even worse. especially coke and  uppers.  ...answered by John Carcerano from Yahoo Answers
